Understood. I'm not necessarily in favor of the horizontal menu, as I've discussed before. In this specific scenario, however, I think the full-width bar is better visually, as the short bar looks chopped off. I would prefer the menubar still stretch across the top of the screen, just that the menu itself is detached. On extremely small screens, such as phones or PDAs, the menubar which holds only iconlets is rather common and would work quite well. But, still, I feel it should go the full width across, for visual reasons.
I agree, the full bar is better visually. since the issue is horizontal space taken by horizontal menu, the menu could be collapsable to look like the wild menus implementation. http://freshmeat.net/screenshots/46156/49363/ This way the menu is in a stable position (top left) making it easiy to hit whether collapsed or not.
By the way, Jesse, can you make icons for a trash can, > an empty one and a full one. Thanx a lot !! Yep -- I've previously created an empty trash can icon -- I'll just have to make a full one.
