I agree, the full bar is better visually. since the issue is horizontal space taken by horizontal menu, the menu could be collapsable to look like the wild menus implementation. http://freshmeat.net/screenshots/46156/49363/ This way the menu is in a stable position (top left) making it easiy to hit whether collapsed or not.
I think the idea of having vertical menu on fixed position (top-left) is interesting. Although it takes one extra click to expand the first-level menu comparing to horizontal menu, I think it can be configured to be expanded automatically if that application get focused. So for menu (not menulet), we have three options floating now: 1. Default GNUstep vertical menu. 2. OSX-like horizontal menu. 3. Vertical menu at fixed top-left position. Space for menulet can be decided after space for menu is settled. Yen-Ju
