It doesn't matter. The right one is the one that meets your needs. Only you know what those are, but not right now. There's only one way to find out what they are and that is by learning what *nix is all about. Linux isn't much different across distributions. The differences are in initial setup, config layout and upgrade process which you won't learn until you become familiar with linux. I use debian. I've used redhat, mandrake and gentoo in the past. For specific reasons I really like gentoo, but do not use it. Debian currently meets most of my needs best. That is as much as any of us can hope for: most of your needs best. Windows meets few of my needs, most of which are cyclical and quite poorly at that. You have a mandrake cd? Good, Use it.
