Wow, thank you all for such straightforward answers! I was not aware of either Bluefish or Knoppix, and there strangely does seem to be consensus that "if you got a distro already, use it!" So, off I go on my merry way (for now), much enlightened and heartened. Oh and yes I will check the archives as baggab suggested, too.
