I've always lived in northern states (Michigan, New York, Minnesota). I learned that if you don't keep your batteries warm, your range will halve in winter.
The simplest scheme I used in my EVs was to put the batteries in a box with 1" to 2" of styrafoam insulation. That along with the wast heat from charging and driving kept them 20 deg.F or so warmer than ambient. When I moved to Minnesota where it can get much colder, I added a 200w to 400w heating blanket. With the insulation, it kept the batteries at 50-60 deg.F even when it was parked outside in 0 deg.F weather. I removed the cover and insulation in the summer to prevent too high a battery temperature. I've never needed a fan, but it may be needed in hotter climates. -- Excellence does not require perfection. -- Henry James But it *does* require attention to detail! -- Lee Hart -- Lee A.
