Hi Chris, Does it seem to you that there are two aspects to communication:
1) the physical aspects of the signaling: physically detectable 2) the computational interpretation of the signals: logically inferable? We have no idea if plants have interpretation of the chemical signals in addition to the mere presence and/or absence of such, but presence/absence is sufficient, IMHO, to satisfy 2).
