>Listen, I just believe that proprietary software will not disappear, but I strongly believe that GPL will be the majority, no matter if there will be more people thinking like me or like you (and I don't think it's a matter of being right or wrong).
I don't think proprietary software will disappear, either. Nor do I believe that GPL will become the majority license in use. A significant number, yes; majority, no. >Ok, as a profit company as nVidia are, they understand only one language: money. My first 3d graphic-card recommendation is still nVidia, but only for non GNU/Linux system. All I want is nVidia make programmers life easier. Otherwise, market tendency, as I believe, will bend nVidia. It might, if you can convince enough people to believe as you do, and it becomes economically feasible (short or long term) for them. >Defending the nVidia's policy is the same to say that Bill Gates is right. No it is not the same. >Do you really think that M$ is right? I never said MS was right; you are extrapolating that from this discussion, which hasn't mentioned MS. To answer your question: No I don't, because what MS did was illegal (proven so in court, twice); they misused their monoply power (remember: in the US, it is *not* illegal to be a monoply; it is illegal to *misuse* the power you have as a result of being a monoply). What nVidia is doing is not illegal. There is no law that states they must issue source code, nor specifications. Now, if they took GPLed code and incorporated it into their closed source drivers, that might be an issue, since they would probably have to open the source code (since that's a provision you agree to, when you chose to use GPL code). However, that appears not to be the case. >I really would like to use nVidia hardware but not the way they want, and Then don't use it. You have alternatives, both in capabilities and price. >if you do it you sure are a hostage of them, or does your money grow up in a tree in your backyard? You're only a hostage if they are no other options, or if the options available are not on a par with nVidia. Neither is true.
