As far as I can tell, human consciousness has not differed greatly from those people who lived during the vedic ages, or the time of Moses in the desert. IMHO, the human consciousness has always been the same throughout the ages. Human understanding of consciousness only needs to be polished in order to reach its true potential. This is the message behind the vedic literature and the Judeo-Christian writings. Considering the inane wars and ignorance that the world is in today, I don't think humans are any better than those of the past. According to vedic reckoning, we are now in the beginning of Kali Yuga where the state of consciousness is the lowest among humans. Without any intervention, the human condition could get worse for the next 430,000 years.
