Have you tried that? Might the program hang up trying to load something it can't find, or fail to load with a "file not found" message?

You can try to rename or delete the synthgms.sf2 in the Finale
2004\Component Files folder. This will prevent the file from loading.

Subject: RE: [Finale] speed

I use soundfonts that are already loaded into my soundblaster card. As
my MIDI out is assigned to to the Soundblaster hardware synths, I don't
see why I need ANY soundfont loaded by Finale. Is there some way to
turn that off?

My screen display seems fast enough, but it takes quite a log time to
load initially on my machine. That only happens once per session, so

I

don't care, but it seems to take about 5 times longer to load than any
other program.

It's because Finale loads the SoundFont bank in memory (20mb+). I tried

to

rename the 144.8mb Fluid Release III GM Bank.sf2 and load this
instead. The
startup time for Finale was even longer!
