I have several disagreements with other editors on cautionary
accidentals and would be interested in other opinions.
What cautionary accidentals would seem appropriate in the alto part,
m.5, of this piece, bearing in mind that it is for three (solo) voices
(1610, if that makes any difference):

1) fa natural
2) e natural
3) both
4) none
Thanks,

I think that it depends on the sophistication of the singers -- to
remove any doubt, my choice would be 3. Fir singers well-versed in the
style, my choice would be 4.
For anal-retentive theory-types who would complain about the Eb / Enat
cross relationship, 2 would be my choice so it was obvious that the
natural is intended.
The only one I don't think would be necessary by itself would be 1.
How's that for a reply to cover all the bases? :-)
