Two "solutions":
(1) For a very melismatic text, you can uncheck "Lyrics" in Preferences>Music Spacing: "Avoid collision of". Applied on a global basis, this can unfortunately lead to some very exciting text underlay. (2) Leave "Lyrics" checked, and at the offending melisma use the Measure Tool to delete the lower handles on boxes 2-x, or as many as you need to get the spacing looking right. This is a _major_ PITA ... but I've been doing it for years. And yes, an "intelligent" programm really should have been smart enough to recognize melismas long, long ago!

I simply can't believe that after all these years there's no way in Finale to space correctly melismas over short values. When you have a syllable over 4 16ths, for instance, you DON'T want the first 16th to have twice the space of the 3 following ones. But this is still what happens in Finale 2008. And since I can't get TGTools' New spacing to work, I'm stuck, and have to go back to 2007... after less than 24 hours with 2008.

Has anyone else had any luck with this? Or is there another way I've been overlooking for years?
