I'm not sure why you are disappointed. I use vnc once in a while to control one OS X box from another. It works OK for me. There are several vnc clients available - I use VNCThing and VNCDimension. The server is OSXvnc. Go to VersionTracker, and search in the OS X section for vnc - that'll give you a quick look at what is available. http://www.versiontracker.com/macosx/index.shtml I use X-display forwarding from one OS X machine to another once a week or so. It also seems to work fine, although I did fight with it until I got the configuration sorted out.
