One of my graduate students is trying to use octave/gnuplot on my cube while
remotely logged in. Gnuplot is giving a series of error messages for him
while he's remotely logged in - but not me!

Here's the situation:

(1) sshd/ssh X-forwarding is on.
(2) when either of us ssh's to my cube, we're able to start an x-terminal
(conclusion: X-forwarding is working)
(3) When I start gnuplot, it works. When I plot in gnuplot (e.g., the
sombrero(20) command in octave), it works. When the student does either of
these (enter gnuplot at the unix prompt or else try to plot from octave), he
gets the following errors:

kCGErrorIllegalArgument : CGSNewConnection cannot get connection port
kCGErrorIllegalArgument : CGSNewConnection cannot get connection port
kCGErrorInvalidConnection : CGSGetEventPort: Invalid connection
warning: broken pipe
warning: connection to external plotter (pid = 21861) lost --
warning: please try your plot command(s) again

I'm clueless as to what's going on. Any ideas?
