XDarwin version is 1.2b4, so that seems to be ok. I checked the plist
before trashing it to see if there was anything obviously screwy there
and noticed that it still had /bin/tcsh listed as my shell. Hmmmm. So
I trash it and start X from the icon and it stalls in the same place.
Check the new plist and it lists /bin/tcsh as the shell, not
/sw/bin/bash. Interesting, given that the 'Use default login shell for
this user' button was selected. Double checked Netinfo to make sure it
still had /sw/bin/bash as the login shell and it did (just making sure,
despite the fact that my terminal sessions are in bash).

So, I'm going to try setting the shell to /sw/bin/bash in the
preferences and see if that sorts it out. I'm wondering if XDarwin
calls on /etc/passwd for shells, but that file is only supposed to get
called in single user mode. Anyway, if I figure anything out I'll post
back.
