If there is a safe recipe for disaster, then this is it. If you compile anything with this constellation, you have no way of knowing which one of the two incompatible X11s will be used; most probably a deadly mixture of both. Packages may well choose to use your include files from /usr/X11R6 together with the libraries from /usr/X11. And if you run X11, do you know in every situation which one of the two executables of the same name will be executed? fink itself is confused, too, because for determining what version of X11 you have, it looks for *.pc files in both /usr/X11 and /usr/X11R6 and gets two different answers. (The fact that it looks in both might be considered a bug, but it works under normal circumstances.) As for the fontconfig problem: The "*i*" is there because you have a package installed that doesn't exist (in this version or at all) for 10.5. I would remove the fontconfig-config, perhaps using dpkg sudo dpkg -r --purge fontconfig-config (you tried to remove "fontconfig-config", didn't you, not "fontconfig-conf"?) -- Martin ------------------------------------------------------------------------- This SF.net email is sponsored by the 2008 JavaOne(SM) Conference Don't miss this year's exciting event.
