Thanks...I missed it last time I checked. I'm compiling it
on my clean 10.4 system (I'm not hopeful it will solve the
problem though).

I don't really know how to undestand these. There's one
here: http://quantum.leeds.ac.uk/~viv/viv-ff15-crash.log
I think it is telling me that nothing is being pulled in
from the wrong X11 tree (only /usr/X11R6/... appears). But
I don't know how you tell which bit actually crashed -- the
thread that crashed has 58 entries.
There's a firefox2 crash log here, from a clean account that
hasn't run X or firefox before:
