What version of firefox? From the profile folder, it looks like
everything in your profile is being created, so the problem probably
arises when drawing the first window. Can you run the following
command? If it works, you can set a test location for a test profile
someplace outside your NFS mount.
firefox --profilemanager
Also, the fontconfig package you wanted to remove in the first message
is "fontconfig-config", not "fontconfig-conf" (which is partially cut off).
