I fiddled with this for a couple of hours and just could not get the pins to
extend equally like they show in the manual, fig.
9-11.http://www.bafb.org/1968firebird.org/68sm/steering/steering1.htmlHere are
a few pics of what mine looks like.

bottom one sticks out way to far. If I turn the coupler 180, the bottom one
still sticks out same distance. This seem to confirm that the steering box
shaft and the rag joint coupler are not bent. You can see from the Inboard View
Away pic that the alignment between the steering box and the column is a little
off. I loosened the bolts on the steering box but there is not enough play to
get much more than maybe a 1/32" improvement. Either the
steering box needs to come down at the rag joint, does not seem to be
possible, or the steering column needs to come up at the steering wheel end, no
where to go since the dash is in the way. I torqued my body bushing mounts to
25 ft-lb then put a jack underneath the subframe and lifted it up off the jack
stands, i.e. put all the weight on the subframe to get the steering box to
rotate clockwise (as viewed from driver side). This helped pull the top pin in
about 1/8" but still way off.Any ideas?
Thanks,Sheen
