OK.  But now I am back to creating the columns by hand, which is what I 
was trying to avoid in the first place. Or I can display the Data 
Sources window and right click the table and select Configure with 
Wizard.  Which gets me back to selecting a connection, which I can't do 
because Firebird is not an option.

Ultimately, it appears as though I can't populate the column list of a 
dataset without being able to create a Firebird connection (which makes 
perfect sense) but I can't do it.  Surely there must be a way to have 
the Firebird provider appear as a data source in the Change Data Source 
dialog.

Surely other people must be doing this.
