I, too, am in the Pacific NW, although Vancouver Island is a little more extreme that my spot on Vashon Island, Washington. My Fjords wear the best quality rain sheets I can buy, and for my money and experience that is anything by Rambo or Bucas. I have few Rambos from 10 years ago, and with annual repair and re-waterproofing they are going strong! I really like the cut of the Rambos for my hefty horses of all breeds, and they work quite well on the Fjords, but they do look a little silly because they are longer, so the ponies look like kids in their borrowed parents' clothes! I find that with the extreme wet and wind, the waterproof breathable, windproof, light weight rain sheets are the best. If the horses are dry and have a wind-cheater on they will be quite comfy, even with a trace clip. My horses live outside 24/7 with sheds to get out of the wind and rain and occasional wet snow we have. If they get caught in their raincoat and the weather gets a little warmer, the fabric breathes so they don't roast and get sweaty. Last winter my Fjord mare was trace clipped and never once seemed remotely cold. She is really hard on blankets, which is frustrating and sometimes costly, but she was in a cheaper rain sheet last year..... this year she'll wear a Rambo!

Last week we had 3-4" of rain in 5 days, then 50 mph gusts on Thursday. Yesterday it was in the 70's; none of our horses wore a rain sheet last night - it is 54º at 6:45 am! This is a very odd Fall. I'm thinking about everyone in the fires and extreme weather everywhere.
Take care,
Emily
