Same here. Gus has been body clipped 2x now and I have just done a trace clip on him. His coat would be almost fully grown out by now if I hadn't.

When we moved to Michigan, he was blanketed just because he grew up in a lovely climate and not Michigan climate. and thankfully I did blanket cause even with that on during the winter he was SKINNY coming out of it. if he had to use his 'fat' etc., to keep him warm, he'd have been really skinny. Part of it was the hay being fed and getting him regulated on it...... was different way different then CA hay.

For the next three years we lived there he was never clipped but it was horrible riding during the winter taking a lesson as it took him FOREVER to dry out.....he'd be dripping with sweat.

So now he is clipped to keep him cool in his very semi retirement in nice warm Arizona

I just went out and found Odin sweating...with no work. His chest was
soaked, just from standing in the son with his winter coat.
