I'm not sure about the change in color of the 3d panels, I've never noticed that myself.
Regarding the enhanced lighting option, are you sure you don't mean "distance attenuation" here? That option is only effective if enhanced lighting is activated. So it might look as if it doesn't do anything, but it only works in a particular order:
enhanced-lighting on -> distance attenuation on enhanced lighting off = distance attenuation off
