The most outrageous example of this was the first Analog Devices SHARC
chip. A friend of mine and I were serious about a development project
with this chip, and we wanted to use the JTAG port to download test
software into the chip, which they said in their literature was possible.
But, they flatly refused to permit anyone to see the mapping of bits in
the JTAG string, and told us that under no circumstances would anyone
ever see that information! No non-disclosure agreements, no defense
contractors, etc. NOBODY! Well, we just dropped the project after that
sort of cooperation!
