The answer to the second question covers the first. Yes, I did overwrite. I
wasn't happy about that, but I wanted to give eCapture a decent chance to
install correctly.
Now, I almost never load Protel by double-clicking on one of its data
files. I was aware that OrCAD can be cantankerous if file types are not
registered to it -- at least I had that impression. So I just went to a
Protel .sch file and, as I expected, double-clicking on it pulled up
eCapture, not Protel.
Since Protel does not appear to depend on file associations for normal
operation, and OrCAD did not hog the .ddb association -- I think -- I
consider this situation at most a minor nuisance.
