Hi,
I've been puttering around the S2_1 branch fi.po a bit today based on
the state I found it in at the 2.1.8 release download, and have a few
questions:
* When I "Start new game", the last line in the server output in English
is "We have control of the server (command access level hack)". Does
this happen in the trunk version as well? It's practically guaranteed
to freak out an inexperienced user, since the somewhat less ominous
Finnish translation of it managed to freak *me* out after I forgot
the opening window in the background for a couple of hours and then
read the line... Could it say something nicer, like "You have control
of the server, with command access level 'hack'."? (Two things: "you"
instead of the Twilight Zoney "we" even if it's maybe inconsistent
with the rest of the UI, and, indicating clearly that 'hack' is the
name of the command access level, rather than indicating that your
command access level has been hacked.) Also, the sentence is missing a
period. See client/connectdlg_common.c:470.
* Is there an attempted standard for how many spaces there should be
after a sentence for Freeciv? The nation rulesets at least happily mix
two-space and one-space sentences. The Illyrian ruleset even has
double spaces after all commas and between "the" and "western"
in the first sentence! We're also not entirely consistent with spacing
before "AD" - the years in nation descs tend to have no spacing
(622AD) but utility/shared.c:503 has "%d AD" as the year format. My
own eye prefers the spaced version, actually.
* Any chance we could get a translateable string for <nation adjective>
as it appears 1) just below the map in the left edge while playing,
and 2) in the list of nations to choose from before you start the
game? It'd be so nice if I could translate a "?nation_title:%s" to
"the %s nation" or something like that, because the adjective
attribute ("Nigerian") alone looks horrible in Finnish. The listing's
probably somewhere in gui-gtk-2.0/dialogs.c (near What Nation Will You
Be?).
* It seems to me that I can now successfully affect what the quick
access key of an UI element is by moving around the _ in a
translation (e.g. "_Game" -> "_Peli" changes the quick access key from
alt-G to alt-P). Is there an easy way to figure out which GUI words
appear together so that I don't pick colliding letters for them, or do
I just need to grep around for strings one opened dialog at a
time and hope the same string isn't reused in another dialog I miss?
