The game starts with the locale of the OS.
That's interesting. I was going to suggest that it would probably be technically possible to translate between Windows language codes and gettext locale IDs if LANG wasn't set, but this suggests that something is already doing that for at least one language. I tried this on Windows 7 with the Irish Language Interface Pack (this being the only language change I can effect without paying Microsoft more money), but it didn't cause Freeciv to magically start using the "ga" locale. Unfortunately I can't try Spanish. (Are you sure you or something else hasn't set the LANG environment variable? Opening a command prompt and typing "set LANG" should tell you.) Not that any of this helps Michael. While <http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc233965%28v=prot.10%29.aspx> suggests that Windows has had at least a concept of Scottish Gaelic since Windows 7 (0x0091=gd, 0x0491=gd-GB), there's no actual language pack mentioned for it at <http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows/downloads/languages>. (For completeness: my somewhat old Linux installation, Ubuntu 10.04, has a "language-support-gd" package, although I haven't tried it.) > The problem is that you must *manually select* the locales on the > installation. True. It would increase the default install size quite a bit, though (49.4MB to 72.8MB for RC2 -- half as much again). Still, it's easy enough to deselect the translations. _______________________________________________ Freeciv-i18n mailing list [email protected] https://mail.gna.org/listinfo/freeciv-i18n
