I don't know how well it applies to non-windows OS's, but Intel has for a long
time put out a parallel computing software library.don't know for sure if it's
AMD compatible though :-)
but it's windows compatible, and doesn't seem useful to us.   essentially, you
would be rewriting a compiler now that I think about it.  I have been slightly
involved with the mingw-w64 compiler (as one of my compilers) and I have
noticed that pthreads have just recently been added.  dj delorie is in charge
of djgpp and his project needs volunteers to get it going more fully.  I don't
know if openwatcom even does 386 protected mode.

"Software should not rely on IA-32 processor names to determine whether a
processor supports
Hyper-Threading Technology or multi-core technology. Use the CPUID instruction
to determine
processor capability (see Section 7.7.2, “Initializing Dual-Core IA-32
Processors”)."  according to Intel IA32 programming manual 3a for i7. see
section 7.6.

Doing More with Less: The Next Generation Virtual Desktop
What are the key obstacles that have prevented many mid-market businesses
from deploying virtual desktops? How do next-generation virtual desktops
provide companies an easier-to-deploy, easier-to-manage and more affordable
virtual desktop model.http://www.accelacomm.com/jaw/sfnl/114/51426474/
