Have you thought about just making a virtual package that 'provides'
those dependencies? That way we could maintain one upstream Debian
package and use that one. 

I could also make xmltv a 'Recommends:' for the
next release, since it's true that it's not really a requirement,
though it might lead to people wondering why they don't have listings
;)
