This merely means you haven't had trouble yet, and you will find out, (at
least in most places) that if you want to sell the house, you won't get away
with just sticking grounded outlets into an ungrounded system. 

The problem isn't that things won't run or will not work properly, but if
something shorts out in these things the ground path won't go through the
ground wire, but through the person touching it. I got knocked across a
kitchen one time from touching a poorly-grounded stove hood while also
touching (with wet hands) the sink, which has a nice convenient ground through
the pipes. 

The people who sold us our house had to have about $1500 worth of electrical
work done (on their dime) to correct code violations before they could sell it
to us...
