It could be double insulated, like many powertools.  My house was built in 1922,
rewired in the 1950s, and we just swapped to 3 prong outlets without running any
ground wires. OH NOS, WE ARE GOING DIE :), seriously though, we have never had
anyproblems with any appliances or electronics, even our ethernet network which
I ran under the house, up the old, unused kitchen chimney, into the attic, and
dropped back through the closets works flawlessly even with several hubs all not
grounded to each other and to earth ground.
