The Lucent/Orinoco/Wavelan/Aveya/etc. series of cards will work in any 'Book with a PC Card slot, including my 540c with PCcardcage.
Did you ever get yours working with the 540c? What version of driver did you use?
I've been unable to get it working (I solved the problem by changing Powerbooks...)
