Before this subject gets into too many people's kill files, I'd like to bring it back to my personal differences with something like the "macbook pro".
For all those complaining about "MacBook" try Acer's on for size: the name of their new Core Duo - based system is "TravelMate 8204WLMi".
1. There is no modem, so my life in rural New Zealand requires purchasing a seperate usb modem. Here's hoping the Apple variety are way better than what I've observed in the Windows world.
With luck, they should be. That said, the Airport Base station still has a modem in it, and that makes life a lot more convenient. (I may not live in rural New Zealand, but I'm still using a modem. The base station allows all my systems access to the network, and untethers my powerbook).
This does rather put a crimp in using the PB to fax things. I'm not nearly convinced this is as good an idea as, say, eliminating the floppy.
2. There is no pcmcia slot, if this is the powerbook replacement, then the ibook replacement won't have one either,
iBooks have NEVER had PCMCIA slots, neither does the current 12" PowerBook.
so I have to find a usb reader for my original IXUS camera's CF card.
I got an 8-in-one USB reader about the width and length of a largish business card, and 1-1.5 CM thick for $8 online.
or, I can stay with my 667MHz 15" powerbook and not fret about all the worn paint, and when OS 10.5 doesn't support PowerPC, then I'll install Net/OpenBSD/*linux...
Sigh. Apple's already stated that they're going to continue supporting PPC for many years to come.
