Pretty much the same as mine minus the G4 and a few MB of RAM. > With QE enabled, SpeedRun Graphics measured 92 Yep, I have had as little as 76 on mine. > With QE Not enabled SpeedRun Graphics measured 228 !! I got over 200 as well. > So what does this mean ? What does SpeedRun Graphics actually measure? It means the graphics test in SpeedRun uses OpenGL commands and is slowed down by the presence of QE. The graphics benchmarks are extremely similar to those in MadOnion's 3dMark, a PC Benchmark for games gearheads I used when I used to have a half decent PC. > Also, researching www.xlr8yourmac.com ; "Feedback on Hack to Enable > Quartz Extreme for Radeon PCI cards" several users reported the same > SpeedRun measurement results on their boxes Yup. It's basically a toss of a coin. You take either GUI speed or overall OpenGL and graphics performance. I have found Photoshop 7.0 is really slow since I enabled QE, it's worse than it was on my Rage 128. To that end I think I choose the latter and defer to Apple's better judgment. > Despite the SpeedRun Graphic test results , I will stay with QE > enabled, as above. Hmm.. I initially loved it and thought it sucked without QE but I am increasingly getting the impression that QE is placing an unacceptable overhead on my CPU. > BTW > I do not "game" so i really have no way to measure and/or compare any > graphic improvements QE is a pretty good way of stretching Open GL's legs actually. It uses GL 2D and 3D instructions and load a PCI Radeon pretty much to the roof when the GUI is actually moving around. I have said before that I notice a definite cut in frame rate in Quake 3 Arena (but not in Unreal Tournament as it's too CPU dependent, being RAVE powered) when QE is running in the background. > I ran a DVD with QE enabled for about 1 hour. It tends to take the strain off the graphics card when things get heavy, and the DVD player and QE are both AltiVec optimised I presume (I know the DVD Player is at least) so it balances a lot better on a G4. Slight change of tune - I think QE is only worth enabling if you have upgraded your G3's CPU to a 500MHz G3 or a G4/400 or faster. I think we would all benefit from any input from other users as far a SpeedRun benchmarks go. -- Mark Benson AIM - SilValleyPirate Visit FlatPackMacs online: <http://fpm.gotdns.com> "Never send a human to do a machine's job." -The Matrix -- G-List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
