Fish tank water probably does contain enough electrolytes to conduct electricity (salt, amonia, etc). In addition, if your keyboard was dirty enough, then even the addition of pure water would dissolve dirt and minerals, creating an electrolytic solution and thus fry the circuits.

well the keyboard was on when it happened. if you have seen the inside of these, there are 2 pieces of plastic with traces in them with a blank one in the middle. Many of the traces are browned and I am believeing i damaged the
circuitry.
btw, for 2 reasons, my fish tank is next to my computer. It is an
extremely large fish tank, so I placed it where there were 2 walls under it. And
that happenes to be where my phone line connects. My fish is extremely
aggressive and can easily splash water 4 or 5 feet away from the tank.
That being said, fish tank water should contain a low amount of minerals.
But apparently not so low to not damage circuitry. you guys think the
people at the apple store will give me some new circuitry?
