Further to my report of problem installing 10.2.8 on a Beige G3:

I downloaded the update at work, as we have a DSL connection there. I copied it to a ZIP disk, then copied the update from the ZIP disk to the desktop of my (home) Beige G3. The disk image mounts, but the installer program will not
complete the installation.

You may need to do the two step here, as per my previous post. Download the 10.2.6 combo and run that, then run the 10.2.8 combo and you should be good to go. HOWEVER, I have heard of some beiges that will not take 10.2.8 no matter what you do.

I booted in OS X when I tried to install the update. Should I reboot in OS 9
then try to install the 10.2.8 update?

I do not think this has any chance of working.
