That's great to know. I only have experience with the VIA Combo card that isn't backwards compatible to OS 9, and also isn't very good in OS X. I wouldn't recommend a VIA card, but it kinda works ok if you have the additional software. I've heard the Adaptec combo card is good, but I've never used one.
