Hi Darren, Agreed. I've always felt Lone Wolf was unfinished and there was a lot more that could be done with the game. In fact, I've been thinking of a submarine project of my own for quite a while, but have been tied up with other projects.
I was thinking of a game set in the 1980's during the height of the cold war. A lot of mainstream games like 688, Silent Steel, and Hunt for Red October take place in the early 1980's and the player assumes the roll of a U.S. submarine commander carrying out missions against the Soviet navy. As such rather than dealing with older World War II hardware and technology you'd have a fairly modern submarine with modern torpedoes, cruise missiles, and an increased firing depth. Not to mention improved speed, ability to dive deep to evade surface detection, have air canisters to confuse enemy torpedoes, etc. It would be a much more complex game even without network play. Adding in some kind of network play would be just awesome! With a network version people could choose sides. Some people can join the NATO forces consisting of the United States, Great Britain, etc. Others could choose the Soviet, Chinese, and other non-NATO countries. Cheers!
