You haven't answered my question. I repeat it here:
>
Why is McCain so desperate to keep President Bush out of his campaign?

Your opening statement was:
>
"I watched McCain live on TV in your hometown Toledo yesterday. The
poor guy was struggling in vain to dissociate himself from Dubya's
dubious legacy."
>
I patiently explained that it was silly to conclude that he was dis-associating
himself from Dubya's legacy since he had voted with Bush 90% of the time.

The answer to your question above is that I reject the very premise of your
question.

McCain is not desperate to keep President Bush out of his campaign. Presidents
typically do not overtly engage in campaigns. For example, Bill Clinton did
not overtly engage in Al Gore's campaign. Samjha ki nahin?

Back to my previous explanation, McCain has clearly said that he would win the
war in Iraq and Afghanistan, keep Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons and
extend Bush's tax cuts. Thus, based on an objective point of view, since he is
embracing the foundations of Bush's legacy, it shows that he is not desperate
to distance himself from Buch. However, he has some ideas of his own when it
comes to implementation and cutting federal spending.
