The app simply logs the gps coordinates of the iPhone user. they can
access the gps data from a website created by the iphone.

WiFi access is available for the user who has the iphone no login
required. the iphone simply displays the ip address in which the user
can access the page with the google map.

That would indicate that the app simply stores **on the phone** where
that phone has been, and then it displays a map on that phone, using
that data. Does that need a webserver? Where does wifi come into it?

I think that in order to provide advice, a complete description of the
proposed system and access is needed.
