We don't necessarily. However, as a practical issue, 'total life
support' probably just means that the system doesn't have dramatically
higher maintenance requirements than many other components seen on board
a vehicle, and while Vehicles handles spare parts and maintenance in a
rather abstract manner, it's not like a ship that's supposed to travel
for decades won't need a bunch of spare parts.
