Bob, Calling scripts really shouldn't be that computer intensive. And I suspect that it's actually one script, or perhaps one script that others are relying on, which is causing the problem. Have you tried starting with no scripting and manually starting scripts to see if you can find one in particular that causes the sluggishness to start up? If not, give that a try and see what you find. I'd suggest starting the GW Toolkit first, as a lot of other scripts rely on it.
