What Aaron wants us to do it set a place marker on that link before you
clicked on it.
But,after you click back and get tossed to the top fo the page ... is to see
if the number-j will actually jump you right back to that link.
For me, it doesn't work.

Oh, yes! I am fully capable of knowing, what he is after. Have actually
been following this conversation, mainly, to see if there is a work
around. Right at this moment, I cannot give you a specific webpage, that
causes the problem, but will gladly tell you the following:
QUITE A FEW webpages, actually, are giving the headache. The GW homepage,
may not be the right one to test it on, as it is an accessible and nice
page. But many other pages seem to not give you the right possition, when
returning to it. OK, Sam (I think it was him), told you about ALT-TABbing
back and forth. Let me add on the Page-Back function. Try for instance, go
to EBay, then do a search for whatever product, and scroll down the list.
When you find one that you want - let's say item number 10 on the list -
and then press enter, you are taken to the ad of that product. So far,
Yes, everything is perfect. BUT! Now, try to press either the Backspace
key, or the ALT-LEFT ARROW, to go back to the prior page, and see what
will happen. In MOST of the cases, you are ending up at the very top of
the page, and have to search your way down the list again, till you hit
the product you just looked at, before you can even go on looking for the
next item(s). OK, YES, you can press the V key, to find your visited
links, but there are a few of them, and what if you have been looking at
ten different items on the list?
You told us, that there has been certain fixes to the browse mode, in
7.01, if I got you right. OK, great. But I think that the capability to
STAY IN LINE, where you were last time you visited a page, has got somehow
broken. The above example is just one, that was no problem back in 6.1;
and as it is not 100% consistent, I suspect, it is a matter of an
'upgrade' in the browse mode, in WE7.01.
OK, this is when you were actually at a link. What if you are in the
middle of a text? Yes, Placemarkers are great, and I use them a lot. But
they call for a relatively permanent, and distinct, text or object. If you
are at a newspaper site, for instance, and you have been reading the first
25 lines, of an article holding maybe 57 lines, you well can press
CTRL-SHIFT-K, to make up a placemarker. But what are you to put into the
field for the placemarker? If the article is about the Cathrina Hurricane,
putting that term into your 'search field' is no help, as most truely the
writer has been using this term ttwenty times, throughout the article. And
as Sam said, if you are back and forth, a few times, you end up with a
good handful of placemarkers, to scroll through, so as to find your last
position. In my example, given above, what you are saying about
placemarkers, would mean, that before I press ENTER, on an item I want to
read more about (on the EBay list), I will have to define a placemarker on
that position in the list, then go ahead and read about the product,
returning to the list of product, I can always hope for the placemarker to
take me back to where I left the list... Hopefully! :)
One suggestion, which you might even be able to implement in 7.1, since it
is not out yet, could be something like this: As the user scrolls down a
page, in browse mode, could there be a variable (in the WE software), that
kept track of the exact position the user - at any time - is at, on that
particular page. OK, this is software tech talk, but very basically spoken
, it would keep track of the exact X and Y coordinates, where the cursor
is at any time, and next time you are on that screen, it would take you
there. I used the Webformator, from Audiodata, with my old screenreader,
and it was able to keep track of this kind of things.
OK, as I said, I have noticed that WE7.01, is less good at taking you back
to the point where you were, than what was the case of 6.1. Not sure why,
but it is surely a headache, to have to scroll down half the page, just to
refind your last point.

There are a few different ways to do it, but, yes. Sure, it's a bit more
work, but as I mentioned, it's temporary, and a workaround. But if this
isn't even the problem you're having, then it's all moot.
If you have an easier way ... please help me with step by step.
Are we sure this isn't something specific to your machine? I just
launched OE, opened a message, arrowed down a few lines, launched IE,
went to gwmicro.com, arrowed down a few lines, and am able to alt-tab
back and forth, never losing speech, and always staying on the same line
that I left. The only thing I notice is that, sometimes, when I go back
to the GW page, I hear "Downloading page," but then I down arrow, and I'm
right where I left off.
Are others able to duplicate what Sam has reported?
