Hi. Not sure if this is a model difference, but I don't have that
problem with my Asus netbook. I disabled the touch pad permanently by
choosing the Elantics smart pad system tray icon and going to the
right-most tab. There is a button to enable or disable. I choose disable
and it's disabled until I re-enable it. The cool thing is that this
setting is on a per account level. So if I have a second account on the
machine, disabling it for my account does not disable it for the other one.
Many thanks.

Hello All:
Karyn and I like our Asus machines, with the one small but easy to deal with
fact we can't seem to permanently disable the touch pad. We use function-F3
to do it and it comes back on the next time one boots. Just have to
remember to do it when you turn on the machine.
I'd be careful of some of the Toshiba models as there are keys in very
unusual places, like the Tilde next to the space bar.
Thanks,
