Right now I'm resorting to basting because I don't own large turtle brooches...
but a friend does so that will be the next thing... along with photos. Turtle
brooches are so large and heavy that I'm thinking they will hold the folds
down.  If not, there is still basting.  I've been thinking too... with the
pleats the sarafin will accomodate a pregnant belly... and if the pleats can be
pulled out at will, they would accomodate breast-feeding as well.  Just a
thought.
Another really cool thing in the Russian article.... the straps end in loops...
so the big turtle brooch pins don't have to go through the fabric!

I've been planning to try the same thing, just haven't got around to it yet.
I'm inclined to agree with you that the bands wouldn't show well if the apron
dress were made that way.

Interesting.  How do you mean?  Do you mean that you pin through the pleats as
well as through the loops?  If not, how do you get the pleats to stay put?
