The mid "g" on bb horn played with "1" will be the 5th harmonic, so will be14 cents flat. When you tune it on the lips will be a little bit off from the "center" of the note, that's why people say thats a bad sound. The "f#" played on "1•2" is also a a 5th harmonic, but as the "1•2" fingering is slightly sharp, will sound +/- in tune. The middle "f, e, eb, d, and c#" played on standard b-flat fingerings will be 4th harmonics, so they should be quite in tune (except the "d" on "1•2") For sure it depends on the horn and the player, but, more you move the note from his natural "center" worse will be the sound. I've wrote a book with a chapter on this subject "Horn's Pocket Guide" http://www.ricardomatosinhos.com/hornguide.html Best Wishes Ricardo Matosinhos _______________________________________________ post: [email protected] unsubscribe or set options at https://pegasus.memphis.edu/cgi-bin/mailman/options/horn/archive%40jab.org
