For a general purpose, all around, reliable operating system, z/OS is excellent. It may fall behind others in specific areas. Eg: TSO on z/OS stinks (IMO) compared to a CMS on z/VM. With some enhancements, a z/OS UNIX shell could easily become my interactive environment of choice. The main enhancement would be an ISPF for UNIX which would allow me to do SDSF, edit/view/browse, DSLIST, and HCD in a X window on my desktop. And if IBM were to embrace the GNU versions of the UNIX utilities instead of their own versions, I'd be in nerd-vana. Too bad most managers truly believe that "Windows is faster, better, cheaper!" than z/OS. That was a mantra around here about 3 years ago. -- John McKown Systems Engineer IV IT Administrative Services Group HealthMarkets(r) 9151 Boulevard 26 * N.
