Barbara, You could always list the omvs tasks by issuing
D OMVS,A=ALL Followed by F BPXOINIT,TERM=identified-process-id and if term did not work, you could use F BPXOINIT,FORCE=identified-processs-id. But shutting down OMVS by issuing F OMVS,SHUTDOWN quiesce all the running process and shutsdown USS.
