IMHO opinion this is a PTF packaging issue. You shouldn't need a full Mod 54
dedicated to SMPWRK6 just to perform normal (proactive) RSU maintenance
upgrades. IBM, please take heed and provide smaller digestable packages for us.
To the comments that DASD is cheap - I don't disagree but I work on multiple systems with
multiple levels of access. I am not always the storage mgmt guy - some systems are
"rich" in disk space some could be constrained.
My whole point is this is a waste of time and as systems folks we have better
things to do than have to run an Accept 15 times to get it to process properly
- My recommendation - during IBM's internal test out procedures on RSU's IBM
should ensure that the RSU's can be applied and accepted with a maximum size of
SMPWRK6 not exceeding a 3390-27 IMHO.
Good point.
However while we're waiting for revolutionary changes in SMP/E we still
need to manage existing SMP/E realm.
BTW: AFAIK even PTFs can be packaged using RELFILEs, not SMPPTS members
- but it is simply abandoned.
