I think a big step forward would be to download a logical volume per product. You restore it, and all the environments for that product are installed and can just be copied to where you want them. The SMP/E environment is downloadable if you want it. So we would get dumps of the systems tested (every month) by CST in Pok with the latest approved fixes on it. This means the SMP/E work is skipped for most people.
This seems an easy solution for IBM to implement, and easy for customers. I would get the Z/OSMF PDS datasets, and the ZFS for z/OSMF, and for CICS,DB2, MQ, TCPIP etc. I would be interested in hearing people's thoughts on why this is not a good idea.
