[My third attempt to send this. Mail is playing silly buggers with the text encoding]

I'd like to know what evidence either of you could produce to back up your claim that Classic won't run on Intel Macs. Rosetta, which is part of OS, allows any app that runs on a G3 to run on an Intel Mac. I'm not saying you're wrong, just saying there's nothing out there that I'm aware of that says you're right.

I think John Gruber of Daring Fireball was the first to spot that Classic is on Death Row:

[OK, when I paste in the quote Mail changes the charset to Windows-1252 and the message bounces. I'll just have to settle for the link]

I should think that if Apple is going to put people through a transition, they'd bend over backwards to make sure as many as possible are happy -- which gives them strong incentive to keep Classic in there for many years to come. It doesn't require any updating, costs them nothing, keeps the intellectual property viable and keeps a bunch of institutions/corporate/old-timer customers happy. I'm not quite willing to put money on it, but I feel pretty sure that Classic will be sticking around.

For a couple of years, while PPC Macs are still in production. After that, it seems not.
